Bachelor Skate Escape

For Mackeys bachelor party we went to Salt Lake City which over the last couple years has become our favorite place to get away to and skate. Its far enough from our everyday life's to feel like we are on a real vacay but close enough to drive for the weekend.

Bachelor Skate Escape begins with camping up in the Big Thompson canyon then a full day of skating on saturday and driving home sunday. Super awesome weekend and glad to see one of my closest friends tie the knot.

BOSS!

I have known Josh for a little over 10 years. I first met him in highschool. He moved to my hometown in Iowa my sophmore year of highschool and he joined up pretty much all the same activities I was into. So we became friends. We hung out a lot and went through a lot. From Josh almost dying after falling off my shoulderes and smoking his dome on the cement to one of our friends actually dying in a car accident. Josh was around for only 2 years then moved away and we barely talked after that.

Last year Josh By random chance moved to Colorado and we got hooked back up. Dude has changed a lot. When I first re-met him he was still fresh outa college still pretty much a "Frat boy" which made me pretty nervous. But after like 6 months and getting him up on the mountain with me that all changed. Josh is super rad and has definitely grown into a beast of a dude. Like 6'2" and is built like a house. Stoked that Josh and I have been able to regrow our friendship. Look forward to charging life with this dude for a long time.

This weekend my wife manipulated me into spending my birthday weekend with the guys (so she could have a ladies weekend and not feel guilty about not spending my birthday with me). We took our motorcycles and guns up into the mountains to a secluded cabin and spent the weekend there. What a good way to celebrate my friend Ryan and I's birthday/ Memorial day weekend.

Trip to Breck+Crash=trip to the ER

Yesterday my day included snowboarding at Breckenridge and then making a trip to the ER because of a head injury. I remember nothing from the entire day. Luckily my friend Lee was there with some of my family to help me out. I am guessing I was not to "with it" afterwords because I found this note later on in the night on my phone

So I spent the rest of the night in the ER

Ahh soo fun. Anyways, Ended up with a pretty bad concussion and zero memory of anything that happened yesterday. At one point, yesterday, I got off the phone with Katie and then about 5 minutes later her Uncle called her pretty worried because I wanted to call her and tell her that I fell so they were pretty worried. This is my second really serious concussion. Good thing I was wearing a helmet.
Thank you Lee and my awesome family for taking care of me yesterday when I was clearly unable to take care of myself.

The doc told me that I'm supposed to take a month off of snowboarding since this is number 2. There goes my season

Jibfest has returned

I couldn't be happier about the fact that the Nixon Jibfest is returning. One of my favorite contests and events of all time. It was one of the first videos I ever actually bought myself and it changed my life and my view on what snowboarding was. Thank you Jeremy, JP, and Dave for bringing it back!

The Big Show

This weekend Mackey and I adventured up to Aspen for the X-Games. We drove up Friday night and stayed with some friends in Beaver Creek. Woke up early Saturday morning to the smell of a mans sized breakfast and then took a few runs at BC. Then off to the games. I am working on an edit so keep a look out for that coming soon.

We got to hang out with Jeremy for a little bit and met his family. Super nice people! Got to check out his board for next year. It looked and smelled really good.
The snowboard street event was way cooler to watch for me than the big air and even the super pipe. I can actually understand the tricks that were happening and think about trying those myself. probly wouldn't actually land most but at least I can figure out how its done. I dont even understand the big air jump and how you can feel so comfortable just hucking your life away over those jumps. Dudes are nuts. And I will never get how Shaun White can get 25 ft above the deck of a 22 ft high half pipe.

Half pipe was pretty fun. We charged our way through the gates and kinda just "head downed" our way through security and no one ever said anything to us so we just kept going up. We ended up here where Mackey was able to catch this photo. It's wild to have these dudes flying over head so high.

Last night we had our first annual Christmas party at the farm and blew it up with an Ugly Sweater party. It was way fun. It was way cool to see how creative the kids got and how a few of them weren't to cool to be goofy.

Tunnels

Yesterday I was out looking for Jeff and Becca's dog Amos and I found this system of tunnels by our house. Shortly after I found them Nathan Kirkpatrick and my lovely wife gladly volunteered to search them with me. I hate to admit it but I am super claustrophobic and this was really hard for me. Katie was the bravest and went first

The tunnel was super tiny. We had to get our longboards and crawl through them on our belly. Which once we got into the tunnel proved to be super difficult since there was about 2 inches of sand and dirt in the bottom of the tunnel.

After we got a ways into the tunnel we kept getting caught in spider webs and the walls were completely covered in mosquitos. So we decided to bolt. This is Nathan on his way out.

They were pretty gnarly. We couldnt even see the end of them or even a light at the end of it.

Got my brand new board on Friday. Took it out on Saturday for my first day on it. It was awesome. Love the way it rides. I love everything about it. When we got back to the car I noticed this.

This past weekend a bunch of us got together and made a whole bunch of goodies and gave them to the people who get hated on the most this time of year. I feel really bad for those working in retail over the holidays and this last weekend was the worst. Black Friday is not to be messed with. I got my tank and my giant rear fender back from my paint guy finally. This little project to way to long. After a couple of attempts to do it myself I had to call in a pro.

Starting my 3rd major project on my bike. Project repaint number 2. Hopefully this one will have a more original look.

I got all of the necessary pieces removed. Time to sand and then more paint
This is another project that is happening in my garage. Jeff got this kz400 last week. We got it running well. Now it just needs brakes and a horn before we can get a title for it and get it street legal so we can tear it back down and really start to hammer out some work on it.

I found this little gem when I was digging through some of Macks older BlueBeanie photos. This did not end up well for me. If my memory serves me well, (which quite honestly it usually does not) this resulted in me getting the corner of this fine little up ledge inserted into my tailbone. The most difficult decision for me after that was how to make myself feel better since I couldnt just go sit down for a bit.

Mackey accepted the challenge of a bet from Adam Hoppe and myself for 17 dollars. In order to recieve these dollars Macks had to drink this half jar of pickle juice. This was no regular jar of pickles. This was a homemade jar of pickles made by Jeff Neel himself. There was a heavy mixture of whatever goes into pickles plus notice the entire clove of garlic floating around in the bottom. This was heavy. but Macks took it down like a man.

SAN DIEGO!

Katie's parents took her and I out to Sand Diego for Thanksgiving. Super fun! Learned (kinda) to surf, got to ride a sweet bike around.
this was our view from about 50 yards from our house. Half way between the beach and the bay at mission beach.

This little window was our number one source of food. Seriously some of the best mexican food ever!
Point Loma was pretty cool. It got way more cool when I told my Grandpa about it and he told me about how he went to boot camp there. It was fun to be in a place with that much national history.

I'm attempting to surf here. I repeat attemptingKatie was a way better surfer than i was. It was really frustrating for me for a while!

All in all super good session. Adam really stepped it up and on this bad boy. However we had a few issues at this spot. Our first issue was speed. There was a hill to drop in on but the snow was way to wet and sticky to just cruise down the road. So then We went to the dropping in on the bed of the truck. Still not enough speed for the rail.

We then moved to building a pile of snow and dropping in off the top of adams truck. Luckily the snow was wet enough to easily pack and build something like this.

Our second set back was with a crazy old man. That was screaming at us from his house up the hill. I went up to talk to him. He told me as long as we remove the snow from the sidewalk then we were ok.(which we always do). Then I would guess once he saw us standing on top of Adams truck he came out again and started screaming again. So i went up to see what the problem was and told me that myself and all my cult member friends had to leave right now. After a few minutes of me getting yelled at and trying to talk to him calmly he told me to leave or he would call the cops. We then went down and continued to session and then the cops showed up and this ensued....

We were pretty much told we were ok to stay as long as we were not to loud. Dude was just stoked that we were not sitting inside playing video games or something. He then proceeded to go up to the old mans door and tell him we were fine and to stay inside.

After the session was over while were cleaning the snow up of the sidewalk the old man came back out and yelled again because we were still there. I tried to tell him we were just cleaning up and would be gone shortly but he couldnt take 3 seconds to breathe let alone hear what i had to say.

Almost All Done

Almost done with the bike project. The tank is done and the bike is put back together. No more lame decals all over it. Super stoked on how it is turning out. Jeff and I worked hard on this. It is definitely not perfect but it is mine and we did it all in a garage. (Refer to below postings for a before picture.) All I have left to do is paint the giant ugly triangle air filter cover black and one small chrome piece on the other side black and I am all done....For now I suppose

2 feet of snow before halloween?

Somehow we managed to get dumped on the week of Halloween. So we went up to this spot i have had an eye on for quite some time.

All things were going well until this happened. No I am not doing a lay back slide. I am actually just falling here. This fall was concluded by me slamming through the sideways bar and then getting tangled up underneath the bottom support beam face down in the snow and could not get untangled without the help of my crew unplugging me from my board. not fun.
However after the only thing that really made this rail gnarly was blown out we continued to have fun. here is a couple of the photos from what ensued.

How I figured out how selfish I really am

Thursday night something happened that I never ever thought I would be such a personal part of. Charlie and I were driving Northbound down I-25 by the Thornton parkway exit in the far right lane after moving some furniture to my Mother and Father in law’s home in Denver. Everything was normal then all of a sudden blue Saturn came within inches of clipping the front end of the truck I was driving while cutting into our lane. Also just barely missing the small white car in front of him in the middle lane. I was like “This Jack Hole just cut me off and almost hit me!” He then failed to straighten out and continue down the right lane and maintained his angle down into the ditch. He went down into the ditch and then smashed through a large electrical box and then diverted into a small collection of large trees, uprooting some and cutting right through others. Then the crazy part happened. All we saw were his tail lights fly up in the air flip multiple times, like a true NASCAR style flipping, and then came to rest on the roof of his car like 50 yards later. I stopped the truck and we immediately began running towards the scene (while calling 911) with full intentions of helping out the mangled/dead/unconscious/child/mother/drunk driver/ all of the other terrible scenarios that were going through my head while running down there. When we got down there the guy who was in the car was already out and walking around. I went up to him and asked him some simple, general questions like, “OH MY GOSH ARE YOU OK???? Was there anyone in the car with you? And what happened??? All he was concerned about was finding his cell phone. I said don’t worry about it and sat him down on the curb and kept him lucid until paramedics arrived. What happened to make him drive off of the road and then do more flips than the Japanese Olympic diving team? He told me he was coughing and then passed out and that’s the last thing he remembers!!! I said, “Holy crap dude have you been drinking? I mean the cops are right here (as they are running down the hill from the highway.)” He said no he was completely sober. Then they put him in the ambulance and took him away to get checked out. Charlie and I stuck around to give our statements.

Somehow this dude was not injured at all. This is him being loaded into the ambulance. He only had a small cut on his chin that was barely bleeding, and some cuts on his forearms that I think were from crawling out of his car which was upside down as you can see.

This may sound weird but after this ordeal was over is where I began to feel like the most selfish person on the planet and this is why…. After words I started to think about how thankful I was that he was not injured, and was going to be OK. I then thought, “why am I so thankful he is ok?” All of the answers that came into my head were something like this:
- I am so thankful he didn’t get hurt so I didn’t have to deal with it.
- I am so thankful he didn’t get hurt because I didn’t have to see a dead body.
- I am so thankful he didn’t get hurt so I didn’t have to try and work through getting over the fact that I just watched someone get killed
- I am so thankful he didn’t get hurt because I didn’t have try and pull a mangled body out of a car. It was all about ME ME ME ME I I I I I. It made me furious. How come I couldn’t have thought something like I am so thankful he was not dead because now his girlfriend or wife or whatever still has someone to come home too. Or maybe, I am so thankful he is fine because his children still have a father to hug and kiss before they go to bed. Or because his family doesn’t have to have a funeral for him.

My own selfishness has become apparent to me and through the help of God and my friends and family’s prayer and support I will continue to grow through my own selfishness. Fighting the flesh is a constant battle for all of us. Last night it just became very apparent to me how much my flesh is only concerned about its self. But thanks be to God that he is ok and that his family does still have the Son/Father/Husband that left that day.

Katie's Birthday Bash

Took Katie on a Moto ride up into the mountains and then went on a mini hike by the Poudre River.

Since katie had to work at 4:30am we could not go up into the mountains and go camping. So i brought the camping to us. I made our apartment into a camp site. Little fire pit, the stream running across the room(in the foreground of the pic) and even the tent. followed by a birthday cake hooked up by my man Jeff Neel. He really saved my butt pulling through with that cake!!!

My wife and i went on a camping trip and we were a little unprepared. We forgot a can opener, the tortillas for the burritos, and numerous other camping essentials.

Since we forgot to bring a can opener we were required to beat the beans out of the can with a rock. Got a little messy.

Got to get together with long time friend and teacher Brian Donahue today after the funeral. It was awesome to catch up and got to share some ice cream together. Its always fun to see this guy!

By the way its hilarious that his Iphone made it into the photo because it is constantly in his hand. He has about as bad of "phone anxiety" as i do.

Today we went to lunch at Chili's and ran into my long time good friend Elwood (AKA "Morrow Team Rider") who ended up being our server. Oh and by the way later in the night Elwood hooked up with us and we went to the casino and he won 3oo bucks and I lost 100. What a lucky dude. He got to serve my wife and I lunch and won 300 bucks.

R.I.P. Ryan Crowder

On Thursday June 4th my cousin Ryan passed away from natural causes.

This man was more than just my cousin, because I lived with him for 10 years of my life. He was and always will be more like a brother to me. Growing up I always looked up to him. I have numerous "books" and drawings that I made when I was a kid. They all depict Ryan as my hero. Everything I did as a kid I did because he was doing it and I thought that would make me as cool as him. Even with the 8 year age gap in between us he always managed to show his love to me and not do the typical annoying little cousin act when I would want to hang out with him and his high school friends even though I was just in like 3rd grade. He always went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of growing up. Whether it was standing up for me when I was getting picked on or bringing the stars of the High school basketball team to my 13th birthday party to play basketball with me and my friends. We are still waiting to find out what exactly happened from the autopsy but it is believed to be natural causes. These next few days will be very hard on my family and I. Please lift us up in your prayers.

Here we have our crew trying to figure out what just inserted itself into jeff's radiator hose and how we are going to fix it and get his bike back on the road.
Turns out it was a 9 inch railroad spike. Could have been way worse.

We left Jeff and Ryan to get the bike handled so we could try and keep some sort of deadline up over the pass and too A-basin.

WEDNESDAY RIDING LEG CRUSHING DAY

Yesterday the coloRADudes went up to Breck for another day of hammering the snow. My buddy Steve took a full speed crash into the trees and this is what is left of the front of his leg. This picture does not do it any justice what so ever. This was taken about 3 hours after the collision. I cant believe you didnt break your leg bro. Could have been way worse for sure. We got lucky that he did not bounce further into the trees and he bounced out after blowing through 2 or 3 of them. "Man that could have been bad!"

Last night I was woken up out of a food induced coma to fire truck lights all around my apartment. and me being the curious person I am managed to throw on a shirt and make it out side to see what was going on.

By the end of the night they found the strange fire log that started all of this action. Somehow the couple that had the log in their fireplace used it to catch their entire chimney on fire.

THE FARM ANNUAL SNOWBOARD TRIP

This past weekend we at THE FARM took our annual snowboard trip. It was a great weekend mixed up with some not so great happenings. This is part of our crew taken from the balcony of our house we stayed in right across the street from the lifts at keystone.

Friday night we had a super good night session that got cut short by the early close of the terrain park. here are a couple shots from Mr. Blue Beanie himself Macks Hooker. Nate Kirkpatrick above with a strong front 50 and myself below with a gap to boardslide.
The biggest bummer of the trip was when Nate West(shown above) took a gnarly spill on a jump and got super broken off. It was one of the scariest things I have ever been through since my brother in law and myself saw it happen and were first on scene and he was unconscience. For more updates on how he is doing check out his UPDATE blog. He is doing much better than I had originally expected from seeing him on the mountain.

SNOWMOBALL DAY

Some of the ColoRADudes took a day off of their fast paced lives and went out into Vail pass on some snowmobiles. we dealt with some rough weather but still managed to have lots of fun. and Shred some really deep powder.

At the end of the day my face was frozen with ice but i didn't want to quit. The nice thing about the ice was that it made a great insulator from the wind so that my face did not completely fall off. The harsh conditions will only make the next time that much more fun. Thanks to my wife for the Christmas present. You are awesome.

Last night we went out to West greeley and had a super fun wall ride session. It took time to get the speed dialed it since we were towing in with my car and we could not get the traction we needed in order to get up on that thing. The night ended with the cops showing up and believe it or not he just wanted to watch. So he watched one hit and then told us we needed to wrap it up and head hope. Thanks to him for not being a jerk.

X GAMES 09

My buddy Shane and I got the opportunity to head up to the X games on Thursday as industry Guests. It was a pretty cool deal. We got to hang out in places where only the riders and friends and family of the riders could go. Plus got Lift access.
The trip started off on Wednesday night with a visit to my friend Katies place in Eagle. We went to this pretty sick bowling ally. It was a good way to start off the our couple day adventure. Thanks again Katie for hookin it up

Thursday morning we got up at 6:00 and made the trip up to the games. In the parking lot this girl parked next to our car and Shane immediately had is eye on her. We rode the bus up and Shane was talkin to her but it was short lived since once we got off the bus we all went our separate ways. Later on in the day we went to the Taco Bell tent hunting for food and guess who happened to to be working the taco bell tent. It was none other than that chick. Shane's eyes once again lit up. While explaining the game prizes he told her that if he wins all he wants is a picture with her. Well, Shane continued to dominate the game and this is what came from that.

If you think that is creepy, well because it kinda is, but wait till you here the next part of the story. Later that night when we went back to the car shane and I thought it would be a good idea to leave this little note on her car.........ABSOLUTLEY HILARIOUS!!!!

The rest of the day was spent entertaining ourselves by people watching and watching the action. here are some of the days happenings

Our Industry Guest passes gave us lift access so we got to ride for free too.

We left aspen at about 10:30 and drove the 5 hours it took to get back and I got back into my bed at about 3:00am. Long day but super fun.

Loveland Trip

Some of my good friends came into town from my hometown in Iowa this week. I went to Loveland for the first time. We had a good day of riding, and lots of tumbling down the mountain in the deeps, As for the weather? Well our teeth were hurting because of the cold air from constantly laughing and smiling in almost knee deep pow all day long.
